Weigh In Motion
Weigh-in-motion (WIM) is a relatively new technique to capture and record truck axle and gross vehicle weights while the vehicle is still moving. Unlike traditional static weigh stations which require the vehicle to be stationary during the weighing process, current WIM systems perform weight measurment while the vehicle is moving. Consequently WIM systems are much more efficient than their equivalent static counterparts.
WIM monitoring has applications including:

A typical WIM system consists of a ground sensor (typically inductive loops and two piezoelectric sensors), fixed or wireless communications, cameras and license plate reader (LPR) technology to support enforcement.
