SMARTREG™ SPEEDWATCH is a speed monitoring system designed to measure the average speed of a vehicle. SPEEDWATCH uses SMARTREG™ ANPR cameras to create a traffic monitoring, speed zone, network. SPEEDWATCH cameras are typically installed on a gantry over a motorway or can be pole mounted. At each camera, the location, date, time and vehicle registration is recorded. Each camera acts as a node in a network, relaying vehicle data back to a central database. The average speed of the vehicle is determined by knowing the separation distance between the cameras and the recorded time stamp information.
SPEEDWATCH will inform traffic authorities of speeding offences as they take place and also provides realtime statistical traffic information.
Although originally designed for roads and motorways, SPEEDWATCH has successfully being deployed in both public and private car park spaces to ensure that staff and members of the public drive within the permitted speed limits. Since it’s introduction, the number of traffic accidents at the sites has been reduced.
