Advanced Petrol Forecourt Protection
With increased fuel prices and the current economy, the incidence of drivers not paying at petrol forecourt stations is on the increase. According to the British Oil Security Syndicate (BOSS), Drive Offs (also referred to as bilking) and No Means of Payment incidents cost the UK petrol industry more than £30 million every year.
SMARTREG™ ANPR (automatic number plate recognition) systems, can provide complete forecourt protection specifically designed to address the problem of forecourt drive offs offences.
SMARTREG™ ANPR cameras read the vehicle registration at each fuelling station or at the entrance to the main forecourt. The system performs a query against a central database to check if the vehicle has previously committed a drive-off or non-payment type offence. The result of the query is sent to the POS (point of sale system) and one of the following actions takes place.
- Enable the fuel pump to allow fuelling to commence (no offense found).
- Provide a warning the forecourt operator to disable the fuel pump.
- Automatically stop any fuel (subject to the type of pump type being used)
- Record all vehicle data including the location, pump, terminal, operator, date and time stamp
A major benefit of this type of system over conventional CCTV is that the offense information can be centralised and shared between different forecourts. Forecourt operators can be warned when previous offenders come on site before fuel is dispensed thereby reducing the risk of the offence being repeated at the operator’s expense.
ANPR forecourt security systems are proven to significantly deter and prevent these type of crimes on petrol forecourts. Forecourt operators who have implemented this type of system have seen a significant reduction in drive off type offences.
