Parking And Traffic Technologies, SMARTREG™ journey time information system uses multiple (point to point) ANPR cameras spaced along a section of carriage or motorway. At each camera, the license plates of passing vehicles is captured, read and transferred to the central control centre. A server analyses the incoming license plate data and based on the position of the cameras and timestamp information, determines the average speed of the vehicle. This information is used to calculate in real-time, traffic volume, traffic flow, statistics and expected or average journey times. Mapping software running on a central server provides road authorities with real time information for the entire network. This data can be output to a variable message sign allowing road users to make informed decisions and select alternative routes if required.
