Intelligent Access Control
Gates and access barriers are commonly used for controlling vehicle access to a car park facility. The barrier is often part of a more complex access control system which may include ticket dispensers, magnetic swipe cards, RF proximity readers and access pin or code entry panels.
Modern access control systems also integrate license plate detection to provide intelligent access control and monitoring.
SMARTREG™ ACCESS (license plate recognition) cameras are designed to be easily integrated with existing control barriers to provide intelligent access control to car parks and gated facilities. In operation, the vehicle registration is read by the ANPR cameras on both approach to and exit from the car park. The vehicle registration number is matched against a list of predefined vehicles. If a match is found, the system is configured to perform a specific action, such as raise the barrier for entry, send an alarm to security and even display selected information regarding the vehicle, including the driver’s name, an image of driver and the vehicle make and model.
In parking facilities where either ticketing or electronic tagging (swipe card, RFID) systems are used, there is the initial costs of issuing the access media (example swipe card) to the driver and more critically the additional normal day to day operating costs of running and maintaining the system e.g replacing lost or stolen cards, ink and tickets for printing machines, costs for servicing the system etc.. However with SMARTREG™ ACCESS cameras there is no external media required. SMARTREG™ ACCESS cameras visually identify each vehicle and are consequently more cost effective than alternative solutions.
